Time Trials & Declaring Your Swimmer 5/11/2024

    Good Evening, Typhoons!

Our Time Trials Meet is coming up FAST and we are super excited!

We are also excited to have so many new families on the Typhoons this year! We know some of the information you've received may seem new and confusing - we've all been new swim families.

We want to make sure you and your swimmer are ready to go for Time Trials by signing up for a volunteer position and declaring (signing up) your swimmer to race.

Below are step by step instructions on how to declare your swimmer for a meet and picking a volunteer spot. What should you bring to the meet? Tips and tricks before the big race day? What do I volunteer for? You can find it all on the links to our website.

Quick TLDR: Meets close the Monday before they are scheduled. Your swimmer must be declared and a volunteer position selected by 8:59pm. There are no late additions. Need to scratch once you’ve declared? No problem! Please do so here. All swimmers may select three individual events. Mark your availability for morning and afternoon relays - remember these are computer generated based on times. Coaches do not choose relay teams. Want to join the parent/coach relay? Fill out the form here.

Theme this week is Rock & Roll!

    Declaring for a Meet:

Meets will close on the Monday before the scheduled meet at 8:59pm. Our Time Trials meet will close Monday, May 6th at 8:59pm. If you are not declared by this time we will be unable to add your swimmer to the meet.

Learn how to declare for a meet here on the website.

Each swimmer is allowed to declare for three individual events per meet. When declaring, select which three events your swimmer would like to race. There are also morning and afternoon relays. When declaring, you can select if your swimmer is available for the relays.

Please note: relays are computer-selected by time. Coaches do not choose relay swimmers.

All regular season meets will have the same process. The meet will close the Monday before and your swimmer will select three individual events and note their availability for morning and afternoon relays. During the season, coaches may shift your swimmer’s individual events due to times or disqualification status for different strokes. If this occurs, coaches will reach out individually. If you are unsure what events your swimmer should declare for, you may reach out to the coaches by email.

Scratches: If you declared for a meet you can no longer attend, you can “scratch” your swimmer using this form on our website. This lets us know not to expect your swimmer in the tent, remove them from any possible relay assignments, and fill the volunteer role.

Relays: Relay assignments are generated by the computer using the overall best times for the swimmers who are available. Coaches do not select the relay teams.

Volunteering: Every family must have a volunteer present to work the meet. It takes roughly 140 volunteers to successfully run a home meet. There are 150 registered families, so though not required, we would appreciate all the help we can get with additional volunteers. You will select your volunteer position when you declare your swimmer for the meet.

Please note that at Time Trials, we will not have first half/second half shifts. Everyone will work the entire meet as we are not sharing volunteer positions with another team. This is a much shorter meet and staying in your position will give you time to train on the position that you are filling for the season.

One last bit of exciting news! We will have sign-ups for parent/coach relays during our halftime (time permitting). If you are interested, please fill out this google form. We will assign as many teams as will fit in the 8 lanes.

As always, if you have any questions, please reach out to a board member or come chat with us during practice! We're happy to help!
