Meet Director's Moment From The Meet
Meet Director, takes a moment to recognize the big-little moments that might otherwise go unnoticed.
June 28, 2025, Division III Championship Meet - CPT vs BCC vs BHC (Home):
My very personal moment of the meet was taking the opportunity to be the timer for my daughter’s final individual swim. Her start with swimming was right here on the Cedar Park Typhoons 9 seasons ago. I’ll always hold a special place in my heart for our Typhoons family.
Year after year, the pride I hold for these young athletes as they dive for the first time all the way through our aging out swimmers who dove off the blocks for their 9th, 11th and 12th season, continues to burst out of my heart. I spent a lot of Saturday’s meet crying happy, sad, grateful and proud tears. I cried when I saw my friend, whose daughter was also swimming her final meet, walk into the pool during the early morning set up.
I cried when I watched my youngest child dive in for his relay. I cried when I saw “my” swimmers (all the swimmers you trust us with every season) compete in a race they spent a lot of time working to swim legally. They challenged themselves and they rose to the challenge.
I cried again when I saw some of the parents of our youngest swimmers with pride watching their 6U swimmers. I cried when I saw swimmers competing in events they didnt feel like they were good enough to swim. I cried again when I paused and looked around at the chaos of the meet, because I love it so much.
I need you to know that I love watching our swimmers in the water. I also need you to know that I love the parents, siblings, friends, and the volunteers working together, finding their own friends, and a place with this Typhoons family. Swimming is so much more than getting in the water and moving fast, or swimming it prettier and more technically right. Swim offers belonging, striving for one's own personal best, working together as a team.
It's early morning discipline, allowing oneself to fail and grow from it (we say “fail forward” in my house). Swimming is facing fears, pushing through self doubt, and finding family inside of the pool. Swimming isn’t easy. Swimming uses nearly every muscle group in the body. It’s working hard…while holding your breath. Swimming is fun, hard, beautiful and challenging. It's also a place for everyone.
My hope for you is that you find the same joy with the Typhoons family. Swimming is a gift you can enjoy your whole life. Swimming is home. Thank you for joining us this season! I hope to see each of you for many years to come!

- Tidal Waves had homemade breakfast and chicken fajita tacos and brisket nachos that were AMAZING! (Did you taste the homemade salsa?!)
- Before we ever got to the meet Saturday morning the Tidal Waves board and the Apache pool maintenance worked around the clock to fix a broken line in their pool. Thank you to them and their team!
- Two of our 11/12 boys were going for the same record this weekend. They were both very encouraging of one another. It was great to see!
- A couple of JACs were “caught” encouraging our younger swimmers this weekend. Great job!
June 14, 2025 - CPT vs BCC (Home):
- The excitement of the swimmers in the morning for their color wars was so great! I think I would like to make this a new Typhoons Tradition! Thanks for making the meet so much fun, Typhoons!
- One of my favorite moments from this meet was when we needed a head timer for the meet. We had two amazing head timers jump into that role. I'm so thankful and proud of our team who are here to help make meets great!
- I wanted to give a quick shout out to a few of our board members. Adam Crawford took on the Equipment role. He does an amazing job with his crew and making sure our meet world is up and torn back down. He leads with a calm presence and clear direction. Well done, Adam! The other one would be Mina. Mina has grown in her role as merch. She brought some fun new merch to the Typhoons this season! Nicely done, Mina! Last but not least I wanted to thank Kirby and Justin. They have really upped our concessions game this season! Our awesome menu is next level. Our salads and iced coffee is a fantastic new addition this season. Their behind the scenes organization is nicely executed. Thank you, gentlemen!

- I loved seeing swimmers stretch and challenge themselves in new events. I'm so proud of you! There were a few swimmers who faced their fears and swam in new events with great success and one swimmer who did not want to swim their event at all but went out and nailed that 50 breaststroke. Well done, all!
- I watched Coach Ashley make several last minute relay changes happen for her swimmers. Thanks for staying flexible, Coach!
- Wells Branch had their Circuit Rep and President step in for their Meet Directors this weekend. They did a fantastic job and were extremely helpful! Thanks, fellas!
- Our Vice President and Circuit Rep, Cara Owen, stepped in as Starter during the meet. Big thanks to her and all who supported her.
- We also had our Diamond Sponsor, Capital Area Aquatics Owner, Steve Jones, volunteer this weekend as Starter in relief of Cara. Big thanks to all!
A big thank you as always to our coaching staff for all that you do! We saw some great swims today and all that practice pays off. Thank you for growing and supporting our swimmers.
May 31, 2025 - CPT vs PFP (Home):
- The Piranhas had several parents stay behind to help with Typhoons tear down. What an amazing show of kindness and sportsmanship. I love the example these parents gave to us all.
- It’s always a personal favorite of mine to see swimmers stay in the water until all swimmers have finished their race, swimmers who offer a high-five to competitors in neighboring lanes, and kind chats amongst swimmers on the ready benches.
May 24, 2025 - RRD vs CPT vs SSB (Away):
- Watching supportive friends and older siblings encouraging our younger swimmers.
- I loved how all three teams had coaches all over encouraging and instructing and inspiring our swimmers.
- Computers & Board Members jumping in left and right to get a ton accomplished. I appreciate you!

A few of my favorite highlight moments this meet:
- High fives between lane neighbors. Keep that competitive and kind spirit alive.
- Christian Chmiel (15+) making friends with the Hurricane computer volunteers and asking some great questions! He was also the cheese expert for the Hurricanes grill boss!
- Cheering each other on all meet!
- Computers & Board Members jumping in to fill vacant spots and re-run relays. Appreciate you!
